One week camp sessions for 2017 will be held the weeks of July 10-14 and July 17-21.  Girls may register for one week only. Camp is held at the main campus of UMBC - 1000 Hilltop Circle, Baltimore, MD.

HowGirlsCode, Inc. is proud to partner with the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) and the National Security Agency to offer:

Mind, Body, & Coding - Girls will challenge their minds through coding and robotics and will nurture their bodies and well-being through yoga, meditation, and self-empowerment exercises wall while focusing on the arts and creative dance expression. Each day girls will enjoy programming classes, hands-on robotics sessions incorporating the arts, yoga instruction, engaging guest speakers, and tours of the UMBC campus. Girls entering grades 3 and 4 will learn to code animations and art using Tynker programming and will choreograph original dance routines with LEGO WeDo® robots. Girls entering grades 5 and 6 will use Scratch programming to create animations and art projects and Lego Mindstorms® EV3 robots to choreograph dance routines. Girls entering grades 7-9 will learn Java programming along with building and programming Lego Mindstorms® EV3 robotics.

Both sessions are offered to girls rising to grades 3 through grades 6.  Supervised drop-off begins at 8:30 a.m. and campers must be picked up by 4:00 p.m.  Students must provide their own nut-free lunch.  HowGirlsCode will provide a healthy, nut-free snack daily.

Participants:  Each week accommodates rising 3rd through 6th grade girls.

Middle School Camp
Girls will challenge their minds by strengthening their problem solving skills and learning object-oriented programming using Java as well as building and programming LEGO Mindstorms® EV3 robotics.  They will nurture their bodies and well-being through meditation and yoga.  Each day girls will enjoy programming and robotics classes, yoga instruction, guest speakers, and tours of the UMBC campus.  At the end of the week the girls will showcase their achievements.

Participants:  This session accommodates rising 7th through 9th grade girls.

Location: UMBC main campus - 1000 Hilltop Circle, Baltimore, MD
Time:  Camp runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Instruction starts at 9 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m.
Drop Off Window: 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
Pick Up Window: 3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Cost: $350 with discounts for Mind, Body & Coding camp alumni as well as UMBC staff, faculty, students and alumni. Need-based scholarships are available - see below for details.

Scholarships
Girls who qualify for free or reduced meals (FARMs) at school qualify for a summer camp scholarship that reduces the camp fee by 75%.  To apply for a scholarship,  we request that you send or email us a copy of the letter or form sent by school districts to inform you that your daughter qualifies for free and reduced meals on official school or district letterhead to see@umbc.edu.  We will notify you of the scholarship award and camp fee upon confirmation of the FARMs status.

Payment & Refund Policies
1) Payment: Full payment must be received at the time of registration in order to secure a spot in the camp session of your choice. 
2) Refunds: HowGirlsCode will follow the UMBC Summer Enrichment Experience refund policy. Click here for details.

Volunteers
HowGirlsCode uses high school volunteers to assist with the sessions. We are not taking applications at this time.
